Vintage MID Century Modern Swedish Oil Painting, Stockholm Cityscape City View

  
A skilfully executed mid century modernist style cityscape composition of Stockholm in Sweden, executed in oil onto canvas. The painting is a visual feast to the eyes and filled with wonderful details. The foreground of the artwork depicts a street scene with moving vehicles as well as figures strolling on a sidewalk beside it. In the middle of the painting, we see colourful buildings the stretch into the background of the work and into the horizon. There is also a river surrounding the city and a red bridge that connects across it. The artist has paid great attention to form, line and shape, and has made a conscious decision not to focus on realistic details. Using a muted earthy colour palette as well as lightly textured soft brushstrokes, he has reduced and flattened down the cityscape into blocks of contrasting colours to create a wonderful sense of depth and width to the painting. This oil on canvas is housed in its original mid century gilt frame which suits it very well. The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has very minor areas of scuffing that do not detract from its overall appeal. Size: 48 x 72 cm (including frame).
